Lesson Title: Today we are learning about
Required Practical - Extension of a spring
Remember to check for PROGRESS
Focus on Knowledge, Skills and Understanding
Success Criteria: You will show your learning by...
  1. Students should be able to calculate a spring constant in linear cases
  2. Required practical activity 6 (Part 1) -force and extension for a spring. (AT skills 1 and 2)
  3. Students should be able to interpret data from an investigation of the relationship between force and extension
  4. Students should be able to calculate work done in stretching (or compressing) a spring (up to the limit of proportionality) using the equation: elastic potential energy = 0.5 x spring constant s extension(squared) E = 0.5 k e(squared)
  5. Students should be able to calculate relevant values of stored energy and energy transfers.
Think about how you can match the needs of ALL students
Keywords:
  • Limit of proportionality (1)
  • Energy store (1)
  • Energy transfer (1)

AFL/Key Questions:
  1. What equation is used to calculate elastic potential energy?
Elastic potential energy can be calculated for the work done in stretching (or compressing) a spring (up to the limit of proportionality) using the equation: elastic potential energy = 0.5 x spring constant s extension(squared) E = 0.5 k e(squared)
Identify questions for high, middle, low and identify questioning techniques- Challenge questions

Learning Phases/Episodes
Think about how you can match the needs of ALL students
Differentiation: AGT, SEND, LLL, Disadvantaged
Remember to check for PROGRESS
Starter Activity Differentiation and Challenge question/task
  • Students to copy and complete the keywords.
  • Teacher reveals missing letters; Students correct mistakes;
  • Discuss the scientific meanings of the words.
  • Students to write down the definitions of the most important / new keywords.
  • Discuss the 'Memory Anchor'.
    • What does it show?
    • How does it relate to the what we are learning about today (title)?
Think about PACE – Develop, consolidate and deepen knowledge, skills and understanding
