Salt

As we have seen salt is a required part of our diet, we need it to maintain our ion levels. Eating too much salt, however, is bad for your health. Too much salt can lead to increased blood pressure for about 30% of the population, and having high blood pressure triples your chances of heart disease and stroke.

Most of our salt intake is contained in the we eat, and so if we make poor choices about what we eat we can have a high salt intake without adding any to our plates.

Flavour is often lost in the mass production of connivance foods, so manufactures add salt (and flavourings) to improve the taste.
