Temperature is the speed at which particles are moving. The hotter the temperature the faster the particles are moving. Temperature is different from heat. Heat is the amount of (movement) energy that the particles have. This is not only affected by the speed of the particle but also its mass
When a solid substance is heated the particles vibrate . When the point is reached, the particles have enough to break free from the fixed regular that makes them a solid. It is then considered to be a liquid.
When the liquid is heated to its point the particles have enough to break free from each other entirely. It is then considered to be a gas.
